چکیده

Bovine Spastic Paresis is a neuromuscular disorder seen sporadically in many cattle breeds. It is characterized by a progressive unilateral or bilateral hyperextension of the rear limbs. A genetic background of the trait appears unquestionable and most authors postulate recessive inheritance with incomplete penetrance. In this study we carried out a genome-wide association study including 96 AI bulls that developed spastic paresis and 4,335 matched controls. Pedigree analysis suggested a dominant mode of inheritance with incomplete penetrance. Ten SNPs showed suggestive association although not genome-wide significant.

Proceedings, 10 World Congress of Genetics Applied to Livestock Production SNPchiMp v.2: An Open Access Web Tool for SNP Data Management on Bovine, Porcine and Equine Livestock

Since the beginning of the genomic era, the SNP chip market in livestock species has grown almost exponentially. Today, researchers are asked to deal with many SNP chips on daily basis, and this requires having the (general and specific) information on the SNPs available and at hand. However, the information is often difficult to obtain (e.g. data on chips no longer on the market), integrate an...

The DMU-package for Analyzing Multivariate Mixed Models has been developed over a period of more than 25 years. This paper gives an overview of new features and the recent developments around the DMU-package, including: Genomic prediction (SNPBLUP, G-BLUP and “One-Step”), Genome-wide association studies, Survival models and double hierarchical generalized linear mixed models.

Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production An Estimate of the Economic Gain from Selection to Reduce BRDC Incidence in Dairy Calves

Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in cattle. The general research objective of this coordinated agriculture project (CAP) is to use genomic approaches to identify chromosome regions and genes associated with susceptibility to BRDC. The cost of BRDC losses in pre-weaned dairy calves varies depending on market conditions, individual farm operat...

Congress of Genetics Applied to Livestock Production Genetic Improvement of Sheep in Ireland

SheepIreland was created in 2008 with a mission of implementing a dynamic genetic improvement program for sheep in the Republic of Ireland. The foundations of SheepIreland comprise of: a central database, ram producer pedigree flocks, four central progeny testing flocks, and 15 maternal lamb producer commercial flocks. The selection objective has both a terminal and a replacement aspect. Geneti...

Genome Wide Association Studies, Next Generation Sequencing and Their Application in Animal Breeding and Genetics: A Review

Recently genetic studies have been revolutionized by next generation sequencing (NGS) technology, and it is expected that the use of this technology will largely eliminate defects in the methods of association studies. The NGS technology is becoming the premier tool in genetics. However, at the moment the use of this method is limited especially in the livestock due to high cost and computation...
